In the 90's Patti Rothberg had a hit single on MTV. Four albums later, she's still rocking, but she's also teaching us plebeians how to play.

Strengths

• Yea, you remember her from MTV when she had a hit single in the 90’s called "Inside." Well, she’s still rocking – and on her 4th album no less, but she’s also teaching us plebeians how to play!
• She is absolutely the most patient person on earth. She will sit with even the most tone-deaf person and won’t stop giving 100% effort 'til the end of the lesson.
• She’s affordable. Last I checked she was charging $50 a lesson. Not bad to be taught be a rock star!
• She will come to you! In-house may be a bit pricier (not sure...) but I know she does it and it’s worth it!
• Most guitar teachers in NYC are grumpy, cigarette-stinking curmudgeons with chips on their shoulders – so it’s nice to have this ray of sunshine as an alternate option!

Shortcomings

• Her schedule tends to be a bit erratic when she’s on tour – which means you may miss a lesson here or there – but hey, you are being taught by an artist who Billboard magazine said released "The most inspired debut in recent memory."
• If you take lessons at her casa, be aware the chick has 4 cats... so if you are allergic –be wary!

Insider tips

• A friend of mine, who shall remain nameless, but has been called one of the best guitar gods of our generation has told me on more than one occasion that Patti is the best female guitar player he has ever seen play.
• Really listen to everything she tells you – her technique works. It isn’t intricate music school – it’s learning to play from learning your favorite songs!
• Buy a package in advance and book your lessons ahead of time so you have some sort of plan locked down.
• Practice, practice, practice what she teaches you!

Perfect for

• Patti has taught both my little sister and cousin, and they have both raved and played their cute little tushies off when she was through with them!
• She’s perfectly unintimidating for a teenager – cuz she’s young and cool. But not too cool (ie – she’s not tattooed and tough lookin’) for the Columbia Prep Freshman.
