Alex has all the skills of the artists at bigger tattoo shops in the City for less than half the price, and without the attitude.
Strengths
- Alex has all the skills of the artists at bigger tattoo shops in the City for less than half the price, and without the attitude.
- Alex is funny, easy to talk to, and most importantly a truly great tattoo artist. His custom work is nothing short of genius, and his specialty is blending traditional American and Asian style tattoos.
Shortcomings
- The shop is a bit rough around the edges. If you are looking for something highfalutin, this is not the place for you.
- It’s a boys club (no female tattoo artists on staff) so if you are looking to get tattooed by a woman, this isn’t your spot.
Insider tips
- Keep coming back and be friendly, and they will really hook you up with great prices and special attention.
- I’ve seen Alex do some really beautiful feminine work, and some really tough badass pieces – bring him some ideas of what you are looking for and he will use them to custom design something perfect for you.
Anecdotes
- My man is covered in tattoos, had a stint as a tattoo artist, has been to almost every big name artist, and he now goes to Alex exclusively. Ever since I found Alex, every tattoo we seem to admire when gallivanting around, seems to have been done by Alex.
- Alex’s clientele base is very diverse, from young hipsters to old punk rockers, lawyers and investment bankers to celebrities – it’s always fun to hang at the shop and see who pops in.
Perfect for
- The tattoo aficionado who wants to get gorgeous tattoos for half the price of the New York shops.
- The Brooklyn-ite who wants to stick to the hood to get their work done.
Credentials
- Alex has been tattooing in Williamsburg for six years, and was one of only two apprentices under tattoo legend Elio Espana.
- Flyrite has been in the same location for 10 years.
