Wheatleigh Hotel in The Berkshires
A spectacular small hotel in a renovated Italianate palazzo nestled in the breathtaking Berkshire mountains.
Guide: Travel Expert (Taylor)
Location: The Berkshires
Strengths
- The Wheatleigh Hotel is set on a 22 acre park designed by Olmsted, who designed Central and Prospect Parks. It's an ideal weekend retreat, two and a half hours drive from NYC.
- The hotel has only 19 suites, so it has the personal feel of a small hotel.
- The Nouveau-French cuisine in the Dining Room is excellent, as is their wine list.
- There is an on-site fitness center, and massage therapy is available upon demand. The tennis court is available when the weather permits it, as is the outdoor heated swimming pool.
Shortcomings
- It gets booked up far in advance, and it's pricey.
Insider tips
- Fly in privately to the Pitsfield Airport, a 15-minute drive away.
- Ask for a junior suite on the 2nd floor- 2D, 2E, 2G and 2I have the best views and spaces
- The Norman Rockwell Museum is just 10 minutes away, and Williamstown is also close by.
- The Berkshires are stunning in the fall-foliage season - and also in the spring.
Anecdotes
- It could be the most romantic spot in New England. I'll never forget my last trip, with a special someone.... between the huge soaking tubs, the gorgeous walks through the woods, and the fabulous food and wine, we had a truly memorable experience.
Credentials
- Check the list of awards on their website - it's truly impressive.
