Seat Guru

Great site for information about your flight. Lets you see your exact seats and offers information about how wide the seats are, how far they recline and where you can find in-flight power plugs.

Strengths

  • I love using this site when I’m booking airline tickets. It lets you see exactly where your seats are for a given flight/plane model.
  • It tells you how wide the seats are, how far they recline, where there are in-flight power plugs, whether there are personal tv’s, where the exit rows are, how close you are to other classes of seats, where the bathrooms are, etc.
  • They flag seats by color and rate them “good”, “poor”, and “beware” (as in "beware - you are sitting next to the bathroom," or "your seats don’t recline.")

Shortcomings

  • You need the type of equipment to do your search (you can’t just put in your flight number, which would be cool).

Insider tips

  • If you have the time, print up the layout of your equipment when purchasing your tickets.
  • If you are a die-hard traveler, bring the printout when you travel, so you can use it for negotiating last minute seat changes or upgrades – or use the PDA-friendly site above, to access it on the go.

Anecdotes

  • Without this site you are “flying blind” when it comes to booking your seats. It makes all the difference to be able to see the layout.

Perfect for

  • Anybody who doesn’t like surprises when it comes to flying.
